Another fun day today in Vancouver! We had a late night last night in Yaletown and it was rough to get up this morning! This town is crazy! Anyhow, we left Walt's place at about 7:30 to get on an 8:30 bus to Whistler for the Men's Cross Country 30K pursuit. It was about a 2 hour bus ride - we got to the venue (Olympic Park) at 10:30 - that was 3 hours before our event. So we decided to take another bus to Whistler village. It took a good 20-30 minutes to get there but it was fun walking around and seeing the slopes there. We had fantastic sushi and then got back on the bus back to Olympic Park. It was quite a walk from the bus (mostly uphill - or rather - up mountain!) to the event itself and we missed the start. In spite of that, it was really neat because you could get quite close to the action. They did 4 loops in classic cross-country skiing and then 4 loops freestyle (skating). At the transition, they changed skiis and poles - very quickly! One guy from Sweden led for most of the race, but was caught in the last loop and ended up with bronze. It was very exciting! We had gorgeous weather - it was sunny, clear, warm - so comfortable for spectators, but quite warm for the racers (as one of them said later in the news). The bus ride back to Vancouver was a ton of fun. We sat right behind a couple of Swedish guys. There were more Swedes on the bus, but the one right in front of me ("Mats") was quite a character. They kept singing a song. Then Mats went up to the driver and asked to use the microphone. He joked with everyone on the bus, sang some more, then handed the microphone around letting people tell "stories" (jokes). I told him some of my Minnesota Swedish jokes. He told us they probably won't go to bed until tomorrow morning - they're going to celebrate tonight!
