It is a gorgeous January day here in GR - blue skies, sunshine, 48 degrees. Matt and I went to view the funeral procession this afternoon. The church where the funeral is being held is very close to our house - less than a mile away. So, I came home from work for my lunch hour, changed my clothes and we hopped onto our bicycles to look for a place to stand. There are many people out lining the funeral procession route and some areas are much more crowded than others, but without too much trouble we found a place to stand and watch the procession. We sat on the curb for about 15 minutes before the procession arrived. There were about 5 police cars (led by the EGR Public Safety dept), followed by the hearse, and then lots of cars - first the honorary pallbearers, then the family cars and important guests. We saw many of the Ford family members, Vice President Cheney, Dick DeVos, Dave Van Andel and Mrs. Ford. I feel so bad for her - traveling across the country these past few days, going to the various services. This all must be awfully difficult for an 88 year old woman!
